In the last 5 seasons Liverpool have won the Champions League and the League Cup Final. That is not good enough for a team that have won 18 League Championships. However with the recent money teams such as Manchester City and Chelsea times have changed. There is no longer a divine right for Liverpool to win trophies year after year.

This season 2009 2010 has been the worst season in years. Even under the darkest cloud of the Gerald Houlier years Liverpool have not had such as bad season. From the opening day defeat to Tottenham the writing should was on the wall. Defeats against the other big three clubs should have spelt it out to the fans.

Where did it go wrong? Many people believe the sale of Spanish International Xavi Alonso was the catalyst of Liverpool's disastrous season. This may be true, think about it. Liverpool have not bought the same quality of player. Alberto Aqualini is no where is the same league. He came in with a big price tag. 20 million pounds but Liverpool will be lucky to get 7 million for him when he is sold this summer. This was almost as big a spending disaster as the purchase of Robbie Keane. How could a chief executive go above a manger's head and purchase a player. The price again was 20 million pounds for Robbie Keane. And he was sold back to Spurs for 10 million. What a joke!

Players such as Peter Crouch and Craig Bellamy should not have be let go. Peter Crouch is a fantastic Plan B if the time is needed for his services. That was 1 big mistake. Another one was the sale of Craig Bellamy. Lastly not going all out to purchase Carlos Tevez was the biggest mistake. Liverpool could have moved Steven Gerrard back into midfield and played Tevez up top with Fernando Torres.

These are the reasons why Rafael Benítez should be sacked. He has literally wasted millions on players who have lived up to their billing! Bye Bye Benítez its time to go back to Spain.
